Musical Rainsticks

Supplies needed:

• Mailing Tubes
• Toothpicks
• Hammer
• Push pin
• Wire cutter

Use the wire cutters to cut toothpicks ever so slightly larger than the diameter of the mailing tube. You will need approximately 60-80 toothpicks per rainstick

Using the push pin, pre-punch holes in a spiral around the mailing tube. The more holes and closer together they are, the longer the tube will sound.

Help the kids hammer their toothpick nails into the pre-punched holes.

This is about what it should look like inside the tube when you are done.

Fill with a scoop or two of grain. Lentils, rice, popcorn, wheat, beans or whatever you have on hand.
